The Weekly Photo Challenge: Challenge #22

The Weekly Photo Challenge: Challenge #22
This week's photo challenge was a non-wedding-related something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. I did not know exactly what to do for the something borrowed, but I am lucky enough to have an awesome little nephew J-man that was willing to wear my baseball hat for it :). I only have a point-and-shoot camera, and I didn't do any editing (mostly cuz I'm unsure how, partly cuz I am too lazy to figure out how), but I enjoyed having to be a little creative in this, my first photo challenge. Thanks, Em, for introducing me to this, and I will hopefully be a little more faithful with keeping up with it than Dad was.

  1. I see you somehow made me a follower.

  2. WELCOME! We're tickled to have you.
    1. I like that you used sepia tones and the angle of the photo. The piano actually looks like it's in pretty decent shape for being old.

    2. I like the angle and the focus on the first plant. Is there a blue tine to the photo or is it just me? (I have had troubles in the past with things looking a different color on my screen) I like the picture, but I would've preferred the subject to be in a non-plastic pot.

    3. You're so lucky to have Josiah around to take pictures of! He's a doll and the borrowed cap looks great on him. I like that it's from below and I like that it's outside.

    4. Great blue bowl! I'm glad that the spoon is there to give it more context because without it, I couldn't tell if it was a bowl or a piece of glass sculpture.

    Nice series!

  3. 1. Thanks! I like that one, too, especially the chipped off part of the C# that's in focus :-p
    2. There is a blue tint to it, I don't know why. I haven't mastered my camera yet, and I was trying to mess with the color settings, and make it vivid, but I'm not sure exactly what I did.
    3. I am incredibly lucky to have Josiah around :) He is soooo easy to take pictures of!
    4. I was thinking about making it a series of cereal-related pictures. old-nasty cereal mushy in bowl, new-uneaten, unharmed crisp cereal in bowl, borrowed-Josiah "eating" a bowl of cereal, and blue-just the bowl with spoon like that. I decided against it.
Thanks for welcoming me to the photo challenge!

  4. Hey, Josh!
I love that all of the pics were at my house ;) That's what ties it together for me, too~
Of course, I like the one with Josiah, and i really like the blue bowl- really cool how you got the reflection in the countertop.
    Good eye for these !!

  5. Some Old is my fav, the angel and sepia tone really make it an interesting photo. I did not see the chip on the piano key till you pointed it out, but I got an old feeling since there were scratches on the keys and sepia color.

Something New is a great composition, I am so rooting for the little plant to grow up big and strong.

The last two I like the angels and color choices.

  6. Hi Josh! So excited to have you on board, and what a great set to start it all off!

The piano shot is just lovely, the angle is perfect and you have great movement going back. I agree with everyone else that it was a strong choice to make it sepia, it gives the picture a nice sense of age...which is funny because in reality sepia is a process in which you bleach out the print and replace the silver with another chemical...it has nothing to do with age really...but that is no matter since it translates well for the viewer.

I"m glad you commented on the second photo, it's interesting but would have seemed out of place had the last photo not been so blue.

I love the shot of Em and Josiah! it can be dangerous compositionally to cut someone's head off, something that has to be done very carefully otherwise the picture will look strange or awkward. I think you are successful here because Emily has one eye and that gives us just enough context to go by.

The last photo (blue) has such a cool/cold feeling to it because of the colours. It's a strong image with all the repeating circles that keep my eye coming back into the picture.

    Great Job josh!
